Description of franchise system
SONIC Drive-In Restaurants specialize in great American fast food that is made-to-order for each customer. Sonic is famous for their great menu selections and fantastic customer serves that makes each customer feel special. In their fun and unique 50’s style drive-in restaurant concept (different from a drive-thru restaurant), customers stay in their cars while ‘carhops’ bring out the food straight to everyone’s car window. This great style concept takes people back to the beloved 50’s era of Rock and Roll, burger joints and great fun for the whole family!
The first Sonic Drive-In concept started in 1953 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Today, over half a century later with 3,500 drive-in locations in operation, Sonic has achieved the highest customer frequency in the entire QSR industry! The Sonic Company is based in Oklahoma City, OK, and is a publicly held corporation (NASDAQ: SONC) that both owns and franchises Sonic Drive-Ins Restaurants. Cliff Hudson, Sonic chief executive officer and chairman of the board, presently leads the Sonic franchise company with ever increasing success. Ever since 1987, Sonic’s average unit sales have risen every single year, as well as significant rises in System-wide sales with solid sales in new markets.
In addition to Sonic’s well-known and popular drive-in burger joints, the company also offers some non-traditional restaurant models that can be co-branded with a travel plazas and convenience stores, or placed in a mall food court, campus dining facility, hospital food court, grocery store, airport, military base or arena. These normally do not have Carhop or drive-in services.
Sonic offers every new franchisee an in-depth, comprehensive 12-week training program that is made up of an 8-week restaurant training phase, a single week of in-class training and a 3-week phase spent at new store openings. Classroom training teaches franchisees restaurant management abilities, food safety, general business development and leadership development.
Sonic also provides each franchisee with real estate experts that will assist you in evaluating your location and reviewing the population mix and demographic, as well as give you referrals to the best architects for building your location.
The benefits do not end with great training, however. Sonic also provides you with some of the best ongoing support from knowledgeable marketing, real estate and operations professionals! Additionally, your location(s) will benefit from both national and local cable advertising, as well as marketing materials such as TV and radio commercials, direct mail, newspaper ads, promotional posters, signage and coupon books that can be customized for your area. Also, a national purchasing program helps franchisees maximize efficiency, profitability and economy, and a company research and development team will be constantly working to come out with new products that your customers will love.
