Description of franchise system

Snap-on has the #1 market share position in the industry and their tools are universally recognized by professionals as the absolute highest quality tools in the industry. Snap-on franchisees are in the enviable position of selling exclusive, premium products to their customers.

After his boss at American Grinder Manufacturing rejected his idea for interchangeable wrench handles and sockets, Joseph Johnson decided to take matters into his own hands. He and co-worker William Seideman pioneered the idea of sockets that would be removable from their handles. At the time, wrenches were simply one piece.

Johnson and Seideman created a set of 10 sockets that would “snap on” to five different handles. The idea that “Five Do the Work of Fifty” revolutionized the industry and in 1920, the Snap-on Wrench Company was born.

In 1960, Snap-on, along with 18 other franchise companies, founded the International Franchise Association to protect, enhance and promote franchising worldwide. In 2007, there were more than 1,250 members.

Snap-on has continued its innovative leadership across an ever-expanding product line to this day, offering nearly 19,000 products — each one designed and manufactured to the highest standards in the industry.

Business Model
The Snap-on reputation has been built on market leadership, quality products and innovation, plain and simple. Retaining this leadership position demands that Snap-on continues to innovate and push the envelope of design possibilities:

  • A product range with the broadest selection of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, tool storage and shop equipment.
  • The Dual 80 technology ratchet that is smoother and stronger than any other.
  • The most powerful cordless impact wrench in the market.
  • Hand held diagnostic equipment that consistently wins performance and engineering awards.
  • Tool boxes that feature the widest undivided tool box drawer in the industry.

Snap-on has more than 19,000 products, operates in more than 130 countries and employs approximately 11,600 people worldwide.

Franchise concept

Snap-on was ranked as the number one tool franchise in 2009 by Entrepreneur Magazine and recently rated one of the top franchises in North America by Franchise Business Review. Now is a great time to own a franchise, assuming you choose the right one, and Snap-on is one of the most proven franchise concepts there is.

Training and Support
At Snap-on, they believe that “if you don't succeed, we don't succeed.” That's why they provide outstanding training and support.

Your training will start when you go on your first ride-along. You'll gain real Snap-on hands-on experience from franchisees who know what they're doing.

After that, you'll receive approximately six days of extensive classroom training in Ft. Worth at Snap-on University learning how to “talk your tools.”

Then, for at least the first three weeks of your business, management will work your franchise with you, riding in your truck to help you make the transition. They will even help show you how to set up your mobile store.

But your training actually never stops. Snap-on will continue to keep you abreast of their latest products, along with their selling points, to give you even more solutions to offer your customers.

Just like the training, the continual support starts right from the home office of Snap-on in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and follows you down the road throughout your career. The products you are selling are the result of years of research and development, meticulously improving on even the slightest detail. They are simply the highest quality products on the market.

The Snap-on market research is second to none. They know and understand the audience you are selling to and continue to meet and exceed their needs. What's more, Snap-on has their finger on the pulse of the industry, anticipating changes and compensating for them before they affect you.

Snap-on’s general marketing efforts are put in place to help you succeed. From national branding and advertising to local promotions, they provide you with assistance to help your business grow.

It's this proven model that has made Snap-on the #1 tool brand franchises in the world for nearly 90 years.
