Business concept

Jack in the Box Inc. (NASDAQ: JACK), based in San Diego, is a restaurant company that operates and franchises Jack in the Box restaurants, one of the nation’s largest hamburger chains, with more than 2,200 restaurants in 18 states.

History

Jack in the Box Inc., founded in 1951, is a restaurant company that operates and franchises Jack in the Box restaurants and, through a wholly owned subsidiary, Qdoba Mexican Grill in a combined 42 states plus the District of Columbia.

Business Model

Jack in the Box pioneered a number of firsts in the quick-serve industry. It was the first major fast-food chain that started as a drive-thru, and it was also the first to begin certain menu items that are now the standard on most fast-food menu boards, including a breakfast sandwich and portable salad. Today, Jack in the Box offers a broad selection of distinctive, innovative products targeted at the fast-food consumer, including hamburgers, specialty sandwiches, salads and real ice cream shakes.

Hamburgers represent the core of the menu, including the signature Jumbo Jack, Sourdough Jack, Ultimate Cheeseburger and the 100% Sirloin Burger. And, because value is important to fast-food customers, the company also offers value-priced products on “Jack's Value Menu,” including tacos, a chicken sandwich and the Breakfast Jack.

Market

For nearly 60 years, Jack in the Box has grown to be one of the largest restaurant chains in the country. The brand has developed into a regional powerhouse with recognition nationwide.

Jack in the Box Inc. is offering a unique opportunity to partner with one of the most popular brands in the quick-serve restaurant ("QSR") industry.

Training and Support

Over the years, Jack in the Box has re-invested to develop strong operating systems that franchisees can take advantage of today. These include POS and back-office IT, in-restaurant computer-based training systems, a wholly owned food distribution system, and a state-of-the-art Innovation Center that acts as the hub of all research and development, marketing, and food safety initiatives.

Jack in the Box partners with franchisees to ensure they have the support and services they need to operate their restaurants. Those resources include providing franchisees support in the areas of marketing, technology, training, restaurant design, operations, purchasing and distribution.

Jack in the Box has one of the most sophisticated training systems in the quick-service industry. Their blended training approach spans 10 weeks, and incorporates classroom content, computer-based learning and applied in-restaurant developmental activities. These resources are available throughout the entire life of the franchise restaurant, from initial restaurant opening through ongoing management development.

Jack in the Box believes that this balanced approach, which is closely aligned with their business model, emphasizes the integral relationship between staff, guests and restaurant performance.

The Franchisee

The company is expanding its franchise activities and is looking for franchise candidates with extensive multi-unit operations experience. Candidates must have the financial capability to develop multiple Jack in the Box restaurant locations and be able to answer “yes” to the following questions:

- Do you or one of your partners have a minimum of 5 years multi-unit QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) management experience?

- Have you or one of your partners opened new restaurants or retail businesses that required participation in real estate site selection, construction, regional marketing, hiring and training new employees?

- Do you and your partners have at least $750,000 in liquid assets and $1,500,00 in net worth combined?

- Are you or any of your partners currently free of restricting non-compete covenants that would limit your ability to own or operate a QSR burger concept like Jack in the Box?
