George W. Church, Sr., was an incubator salesman that retired from the business with over 20 years experience in the chicken industry. After his retirement, he came up with the idea of providing the best quality, freshly cooked fried chicken at a time when only ice cream and hot dogs were marketed as fast-food.
Selling nothing else besides fried chicken, George opened the original "Church's Fried Chicken to Go " in downtown San Antonio, TX right across from the Alamo. His idea for fried chicken as a fast-food item paid off. After his death in 1956, 4 Church's were already opened and running successfully.
