USA: food services dominated by franchise chains
According to a report published on the Internet portal cafeFuture.net, the US magazine, Nation’s Restaurant News, has announced its 35th list of the 100 best American food service chains (fast food, canteen service etc.). For the first time ever, these chains have achieved net sales of over 200 billion dollars, the equivalent of a 41 percent share in the American food service market.
The Top 3 – as far as sales are concerned – are: McDonald’s with over 28 billion dollars, Burger King with just under 9 billion and Subway with around 8.2 billion. The Subway franchise network has the greatest number of locations (just under 21,200) followed by the franchisor "Canteen Services" (18,500) and McDonald’s (13,862).
According to cafeFuture.net, the Top 100 food service chains have, altogether, a total of 194,000 business locations, over 121,000 of which are run by franchisees. (kbp)
