US Panera chain planning 90 franchise branches
The US bakery and café chain, Panera, is looking to have opened up to 180 new branches by the end of 2007. Half of these are to be company owned with the others being run by franchisees.
There are currently more than 1,000 Panera bakery-cafés in 38 US states, around 700 of which are franchise owned. Last year, the company succeeded in increasing its turnover by just under 30 percent.
Panera was founded in 1981. Panera shops sell bread, bagels, soufflés, cakes, sweets and coffee as well as dips, oils and salad dressings. Customers can choose from a range of sandwiches, soups, salads and drinks which can be consumed on the premises. Panera is currently not active outside the USA.
