Pizza Hut celebrates 50 years of business
The US franchise network, Pizza Hut, is celebrating its 50th anniversary: the chain’s first small pizzeria was opened in Wichita, Kansas, by the brothers Dan and Frank Carney in 1958. The business concept, now run under the name Pizza Hut, has now become the world’s largest chain of pizza restaurants.
Pizza Hut currently has more than 11,000 stores on practically every continent and achieves an annual turnover of 10 billion dollars. There are around 1,400 restaurants run under the name in Europe, with around half of these being located in the United Kingdom. The company, that was floated on the Stock Exchange in 1970, is now owned by Yum Brands Inc., the group that also owns the brands Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver's and A&W All-American Food Restaurants.
