McDonald's to hand over a number of company-run branches to franchisees
According to reports in the media, the world’s leading fast-food chain, McDonald's, is planning to hand over some of its company-run restaurants to franchisees. This move is said to involve several hundred branches outside the USA and shall affect, above all, those in Great Britain. Matthew Paul, Chief Financial Officer at McDonald's has said that McDonald's believes that a number of its approx. 8,000 company-run restaurants can be run better by franchisees.
McDonald's plans for 2006 include an expansion of its
system and is looking to open up around 800 new restaurants, especially in the
USA, China, France and Russia. Over one hundred new fast-food businesses should
be set up in China alone.
