McDonald's sells its branches in Latin America

The franchise giant McDonald's sold 1,600 of its branches in Latin America and the Caribbean in April. According to a report on "Spiegel online", this has led to the fast-food chain slipping into the red.

Despite this, however, the company is intending to keep to its long-term strategy of running fewer then 30 percent of its restaurants itself worldwide. Furthermore, this transaction should make it possible for the company to concentrate on markets such as China where it believes there is the greatest potential for growth. According to the report, the company made a net loss of 711.7 million dollars during the second quarter of this year. A year ago it had made profits amounting to 834.1 million dollars.
