International franchising: best US restaurant concept named
The US magazine, Nation’s Restaurant News, has published its list of what it believes are the best American restaurant concepts. According to a report on the Internet portal, cafeFuture.net, the awards took both the quality of the concept for consumers into account as well as for the food service branch as a whole. Three franchise systems were also among the prize winners.
One of the winners was Which wich, a sandwich chain founded in 2003 which sells a range of around 50 different sandwiches. Which Wich currently has 28 locations: this number should have increased to 50 by the end of 2007 and to 100 by the end of 2008. A further winner was the WingStreet franchise system which sells chicken wings and belongs to Yum! Brands, the group which also owns well-known franchise brands such as KFC and Pizza Hut. The prize for the best business re-start went to the Big Boy restaurant chain. The history of Big Boy began back in 1936; however, after various takeovers the business went bankrupt in 2000. A new investor then took over Big Boy: today the company has over 450 locations. Further information about these and the other winners can be found at www.nrn.com .
