Swarovski awards prize for Aids project
The crystal and jewellery producers, Swarovski, presented an award together with prize money of 100,000 euros during the Vienna Life Ball 2006 to support the fight against HIV/Aids. The "Life Ball Crystal of Hope", which was presented for the second time, was awarded to the charity organization, Médecins Sans Frontières. The prize money is to be put towards researching a new test procedure which should allow HIV to be diagnosed quickly in young children. According to the charity, the diagnosis – and so the treatment, too – is very difficult or even impossible in poorer regions. It says that 2.2 million children across the world are HIV positive or suffering from AIDS, the majority of them living in Africa.
