Stagecoach plans 50 new theatre arts schools in Germany via franchising

The Stagecoach franchise company, which was founded in 1988 in Great Britain, now has more than 500 theatre arts schools for children and young adults in Great Britain and in other countries such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, Spain and the USA. Two years ago, the system was launched in Germany as a franchise network and 20 schools have already been opened over the last 24 months. The company has announced that it planning to have set up a further 50 schools in the country by 2008.

Stagecoach teaches children and young adults between the ages of 4 and 16 to dance, sing and act. The aim is to teach them important everyday skills such as self-discipline. According to the managing director, Nigel Greenhalgh, this is achieved through their “Training for Life" courses. The children are only taught by professionals who themselves have training and experience of the arts.

Stagecoach expects its franchise partners to have similar qualifications, too. The company says that it provides its franchisees with intensive support, for example in the areas of marketing and advertising. The system, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has taught children who have gone on to have a professional career: Jamie Bell, for instance, who played the leading role in the film, “Billy Elliot”, or Emma Watson, who plays Hermione in the Harry Potter films.
