Papa John's looking to expand in China and the UK
According to reports in the media, the pizza franchise network, Papa John's, is planning to expand its network in China by a minimum 120 outlets a year. In an effort to win over its Chinese customers, Papa John's has adapted its meals to local tastes and is emphasizing the fact that it uses fresh ingredients to prepare its food. There are currently 51 Papa John's restaurants in 12 Chinese cities, five of which are company-owned and operated with the others being run by franchisees.
However, it is not stopping there: it also has other expansion plans including its target to double the number of its restaurants in the UK by 2010, a market with many competitors. Nigel Travis, CEO at Papa John’s, believes that there is still space for the company. Apparently, a large sum of money is to be invested in marketing and TV advertising over the next year as it looks to catch up with competitors such as Pizza Hut and Dominos Pizza.
