Mister Minit franchise network celebrates 50 years of business
On 14th July 1957, Donald Hillsdon Ryan opened up his first "Service Minute" business in Brussels offering his customers an express shoe repair service. The reason for opening such a shop: Mr Ryan’s wife’s shoes were forever snapping off and the repair services available took up to ten days to mend the shoes.
The first shop in Germany was then opened up in the city of Duisburg just two years later. In 1965, the Mister Minit name became a protected brand and the services on offer were extended to include key-cutting and engraving services. Nowadays, customers can also purchase stamps, passport photos, watch batteries and security products at the Mister Minit shops as well as use their express printing services.
Mister Minit has also been active as a franchisor since the 70s. In Germany, there just under 260 shops, 50 of which are run by franchisees. According to the company, there are 1,200 shops across Europe and more than 2,000 locations worldwide. New Mister Minit businesses are currently being set up in eastern Europe as well as in Turkey.
