Jack Wolfskin with a franchisee in Romania

Jack Wolfskin, a retailer of outdoor clothing, opened up its first store in the Romanian city of Sibiu in August. The company has also announced that it is expecting a second shop to open its doors to the public in Cluj Napoca this October. Both shops are or will be located in the busiest shopping areas of the towns and are being run by a franchisee who also operates other outdoor clothing shops in Romania besides these two Jack Wolfskin stores. The Jack Wolfskin products will also be sold in these other stores in the future.

According to Jack Wolfskin, the launch of its concept in Romania is the first step towards entering other markets in Eastern Europe. To push forward these plans, the company has created a new position: Manfred Barme has been appointed senior manager brand expansion Europe to oversee the expansion of the brand in Europe. Following Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Great Britain and Finland, Romania is the seventh country in Europe to have exclusive Jack Wolfskin stores.

Jack Wolfskin is, it says, the largest franchisor within German sports retailing. Besides selling its products via franchise stores, the brand can also be found at specialist sports retailers. There are currently 120 franchise stores in Germany and a total of 142 stores across Europe. In 2006, the company had net European sales amounting to 129.6 million euros.
