India: increase in number of franchised retail outlets
Franchising is becoming more and more important within the Indian retail sector. According to the Economic Times India, the number of retail outlets owned by franchisees will double each year over the next five years. Indeed, the number of franchised businesses working within retailing has increased by 60 percent year on year since 2005. One of the reasons given for this growth in the article is the increased expectations of consumers, for example as far as quality and brand names are concerned, and professionally run franchise systems are more able to fulfil such expectations.
