Gap to open further stores in the United Kingdom
A report published on the Internet portal, ft.com, has revealed that the fashion business Gap is intending to open up five of its Banana Republic stores in the UK this year. According to the information provided, Gap’s CEO, Glenn Murphy, said that these new shops will be the starting signal for expanding the Banana Republic brand into Europe.
Furthermore, Gap is planning to increase the number of its international franchised outlets by around 50 percent. Expansion plans have already been put in place for Greece and the Balkan states.
Gap currently runs 137 Gap brand stores in the UK as well as 36 across the Channel in France. The first Banana Republic stores to be opened outside North America were in Japan in 2005 with the first franchise-run stores then following a year later.
