Fressnapf opens 600th franchise store in Germany

The chain of pet stores, Fressnapf, opened up a new XXL store in the German city of Ulm at the end of July. This, the company says, is a special opening as the shop is, at the same time, the 600th in its German network.

"The fact that this 600th store is also an XXL shop is symbolic, too," explained Torsten Toeller, head of Fressnapf. "XXL will help us to make our stores even more interesting for certain target groups such as fans of pets kept in terrariums or aquariums and, at the same time, increase our image of being a competent and expert address for pet matters. XXL as a flagship store should also help to strengthen brand awareness and the image of our 780 shops which are located in eleven European countries," Mr Toeller continued.

The mega-store in Ulm has a sales surface of 1,500m² and sells a range of more than 12,000 products. The shop is divided up into sections with the real eye-catcher being the large terrarium department which has a selection of iguanas, tortoises, geckos and snakes. Its aquarium section sells 250 different kinds of fish. The shop is, Fressnapf says, permanently supervised by vets who ensure that the animals are kept correctly.

This new store in Ulm is the second XXL shop in Germany. Fressnapf has more than 780 branches in eleven European countries making it the leader in its branch for pet food and requirements.
