Fressnapf franchise approaching the billion-euro threshold

The Fressnapf Group, which is, it says,Europe’s largest chain selling pet food and accessories, succeeded in increasing its turnover by 16.8 percent in 2007 to 934.8 million euros. The company has announced that sales grew in Germany, where the franchise originated, by 12.9 percent to 673.8 million euros.

80 new Fressnapf stores were opened up last year, 56 of which were in Germany. All in all, this franchise giant now has 907 stores spread across twelve European countries. The majority of the shops, namely 682, are located in Germany. The Fressnapf stores are run by around 270 franchisees.

Besides being market leader in Germany, Fressnapf is also ahead of its competitors in Austria, Hungary and Luxemburg. Just recently, Fressnapf launched its concept on the markets in Ireland and Spain . The next regions that Fressnapf is intending to expand into are the East European states. “We are intending to introduce a number of new services in the near future so as to be able to provide a full range of services covering all aspects of keeping pets,” explained Torsten Toeller, founder and managing director of the company. Fressnapf is already Germany ’s second-largest provider of pet insurance schemes. Fressnapf is gradually extending its portfolio to include travel with pets, trimming studios, dog schools and vets practices in its Fressnapf stores – such services are to be offered together with its cooperation partners.
