Costa Coffee looking to further expand in China and Russia

According to a report published on the website,, the Costa Coffee franchise chain is looking to focus its global expansion plans on Russia and China. The information reveals that the company is planning to open up 600 new units in China over the next five years. A pilot business was set up in Moscow just under a year ago and there are now already more than a dozen Costa Coffee bars in the country.

A study entitled ‘Coffee Chain Consumer Tracking Programme’ which is currently being carried out by the market research institute ‘him!’ lists Costa Coffee as being one of the most popular coffee bars in the United Kingdom. The study involves a survey of 1,000 customers who were requested to answer questions about ten different categories including quality, cleanliness and value for money. Costa Coffee achieved a higher rating than competitors such as Caffè Nero and Starbucks.

According to, Costa Coffee currently has over 1,000 units around the world, around 800 of which are located in ten European countries. (kbp)
