Burger King launches its system in Egypt

The fast-food chain, Burger King, has signed an agreement with Hana International Company Limited in which Hana has received exclusive rights to develop the Egyptian market. According to a report on the Internet portal,, other North African countries are also said to have been included in the agreement. The first Burger King restaurant is due to open up in Cairo before the end of June 2007.

Hana International Company Limited belongs to the Olayan Financing Company which, in turn, belongs to the Olayan Group. Burger King signed its first agreement with Olayan in 1991. More than 180 Burger King restaurants are now being run by the company group – via Hana – in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar and in the Lebanon. Olayan is, therefore, Burger King’s largest franchisee in the region.

Across the world, Burger King has over 11,100 restaurants in more than 65 countries. Around 90 percent of these restaurants are run by franchisees.
