Adidas expanding in China via franchising
The sports article producer, Adidas, is currently expanding the size of its network in China practically every day. According to an article published in the German newspaper, the Handelsblatt, the company is opening up a new point of sales every other day. It is, the article says, expecting its business to increase at the same rate next year and so it is also planning to become the market leader within its branch in 2008.
Adidas is looking to have at least 5,000 stores in China by 2010. The article states that China will be the most important market for sports article producers in the future. According to official Chinese figures, approx. 500 million Chinese are expected to be doing some kind of active sport in 2010. Adidas is expecting China to be its biggest market next year – at the moment its greatest sales are made on the Japanese market. There are currently Adidas stores in around 650 Chinese towns, most of which are run by franchisees.
