YogaBugs: bringing the benefits of yoga to children
Article
YogaBugs

More and more reports are being published about the dramatic increase in levels of obesity – especially among young people. YogaBugs is franchise system which aims to combat this problem by encouraging children to take up yoga and so lead a healthier lifestyle. Some 40,000 children across the UK are already benefiting from the classes and this number will continue to rise.

The company has developed 2 child-friendly yoga programmes: YogaBugs for children aged 2½ -7 and Yoga’d Up for children aged 8-12 years. The 30-minute classes incorporate a series of warm up exercises, a story for the younger children and fun themed classes for the Yoga’d Up age group that include between 15 to 30 yoga postures, games, songs and relaxation time. Many yoga postures have child-friendly names such as Dog, Surfer and Crab which are creatively woven into fantastic adventures to motivate the children to join in and benefit from yoga.

The company recently rolled out its national franchise management scheme and is now on the look-out for suitable franchisees. According to information provided by YogaBugs, prospective franchisees do not necessarily need yoga experience but should be very energetic and driven and have very good communication and people management skills. Their tasks involve them managing existing YogaBugs teachers and creating opportunities for them within their territory, recruiting additional teachers to put through the teacher training course to ensure demand for classes is met as well as developing a relationship with schools, nurseries and other organisations to ensure yoga reaches as many children as possible.

Franchisees have their own territory to which they are given sole rights. A wide range of support is provided by the company’s head office including training & opening support, a comprehensive business manual, special software to minimize administration and maximise business development time and a page on the YogaBugs website to promote the classes in the individual territories. Three franchises have already been awarded and the company is aiming to recruit 50 franchisees over the next 18 months.
