In a recent press release, hamburger giants, McDonald’s, has announced that it has increased the prices it is paying to its beef and pork producers in the UK. Since the middle of last month, it has been paying 5% more to its suppliers of beef and pork which will, the company says, be passed directly back to the 6,300 British farmers who supply it with meat.
McDonald’s has also introduced other measures to support its local farmers: it will be increasing the amount of British beef purchased by 30% and will also increase the number of permitted animal movements from three to four so that beef is brought into the company’s supply chain which otherwise would have been exported.
Matthew Howe, senior vice president at McDonald’s, commented on these developments saying, “Our business is built on the highest quality British farming and we have a responsibility to act on our loyalty and commitment to the industry.”
