It currently has 366 stores in the UK, with 214 franchised stores mainly in smaller towns.
The company traces its roots back to 1911 when Joseph William Thornton opened a sweet shop in Sheffield with his teenage son.
Consumers are not only able to purchase a whole host of favorites that are available in-store, they can also choose from a range of products exclusively available online from Chocolate & Toffee Hampers to Champagne & Wine Hampers and Flowers with Chocolates, Thorntons.co.uk really is a one stop shop for gifts for every occasion.
As well as stocking a range of favorites, like our Continental Chocolates, our Master Chocolatier's pursuit of perfection ensures that we continue to offer new chocolate ranges including Revelations, Organic Chocolates and a range of Single Origin Chocolates made using the finest cocoa beans from around the world.
Consumers can even choose to create their own chocolate box selecting all their favorite Thorntons chocolates to fill it with.

Thorntons currently operate around 360 company owned stores and 215 franchises throughout the UK.
The Recipe - How does the Thorntons franchise work?
A Franchisee can either be an individual who wants to be a retailer or who is already a retailer. Our franchise operate in conjunction with a second offer; which is usually a card and gift shop, or any other complimentary retail offer. Choosing to go into retail can be a daunting decision for people, due to having to compete with big high street brands.
With a Thorntons franchise this need not be a problem, as franchisees are able to stay independent but have a well recognized brand working with them. It may be that our franchisees are already retailers and have decided to diversify their product range.
Choosing a Thorntons franchise increases foot fall in your business and therefore turnover. With usually an increase on their established turnover.
Being part of the Thorntons team doesn't just mean you get the benefits of operating under such a widely recognised brand. Right from the start and set-up of the store through to marketing support the franchise team are always on hand supporting the franchisee. Each franchisee has their own Franchise Business Manager, who are field based, helping with the set-up of the store and then the ongoing operations such as budgeting, product management and merchandising to name but a few.
