Wagamama franchise chain enters Switzerland
Plans are for the Japanese noodle bar concept, Wagamama, to be launched in Switzerland in April 2008. According to a report on the Internet portal, cafefuture.net, SV Schweiz, who are market leaders in joint restaurant businesses, is the company’s exclusive franchisee.
The first Wagamama restaurant began business in London in 1992. Since then the network has developed rapidly: there are currently more than 80 restaurants around the world, 52 of which are located in Great Britain and Scotland. Further branches are expected to be opened up in these two countries this year, too. In 2006, the company had a turnover of 114 million euros with its 54 outlets in Europe. The concept was launched onto the US market in 2007.
The initial plans for Switzerland are to set up restaurants in Winterthur and Zurich. The outlet in Zurich is due to open its doors to the public in the middle of September. A total of between five and eight Wagamama restaurants are expected to be set up around the country.
