The Chinese franchise market is booming - Exhibition in April
According to the China Chain Store & Franchise Association, there were about 450 franchise systems active in China in the year 2000. In April 2006, the Chinese Franchise Association announced, this number had increased to 2,320 franchise networks with 168,000 franchise-run businesses.
The average number of franchise sites per network increased by 28 percent from 57 in 2004 to 73 in 2005. 14 of the 20 leading American franchise companies have launched their networks in China. However, not only western networks are moving to China; many Asian franchise businesses are making a name for themselves, too.
The franchise boom in China is also being reflected by the numbers expected at the China Franchise Expo which is taking place in Peking from 21st to 23rd April for the ninth time. The number of exhibitors increased from 40 in 1999 to 195 last year. Whilst there were 12,000 visitors to the exhibition in 2003, this number had already increased to 45,000 in 2005.
