Russia offers attractive franchising opportunities

The Russian franchising exhibition takes place at the beginning of autumn every year. In 2008, it is being held from 2nd to 4th October and it is being organized for the sixth time by BUYBRAND.

We would encourage you to consider participating in this dynamic exhibition as it opens the door to the rapidly growing Russian market. The following report was put together about the 2007 exhibition and provides some interesting information.
The 2007 exhibition took place at the Expocenter in Moscow from 26th to 28th September and benefited from the active participation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the department responsible for the development and support of small and mid-sized enterprises, the Moscow International Business Association as well as the Russian Franchising Association.

Franchising has recently become an integral part of Russian business. Looking at the current rate of growth of franchises in the country, the future looks very positive for this sector in Russia. This was confirmed by the fact that 175 exhibitors participated in the 2007 BUYBRAND Exhibition.

The most important brands in Russia were there to present their concepts, notably Mascotte, Tervolina, Baon, Glenfield, Dim, Colombia, LTB by Littlebig, Subway, Mustang Jeans, Oggi, O’Neill, Savage, and many others.

The percentage of exhibitors according to business sector was as follows:
-Clothing: 39.7 %
-Catering: 13.5 %
-Supply channels: 3 %
-Furniture: 2 %
-Sports: 3 %
-Services: 3 %
-Others: 25 %

There was a significant number of international businesses participating in the event with the greatest number coming from France. In Russia, franchisors mainly come from Spain, the United States, Germany, China, Italy, Turkey, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

Every year, conferences are also organized parallel to the exhibition and, in 2007, an international forum was held entitled “The role of franchising in the development of the Russian business sector”. The president of the Russian Franchising Association, Mr Mailer, officially opened the event.

Over the three days, franchising specialists discussed ongoing issues concerning the sector such as financial relations between franchisors and franchisees, Russian franchising laws as well as the advantages and disadvantages of franchises.
