KFC franchise opens up its largest restaurant
On 13th May, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), a franchise belonging to the Yum Brands Group, opened up its biggest ever restaurant in the German city of Munich just eight months after construction work began. According to KFC, the new restaurant (80 metres long and 30 metres wide) was designed by the well-known architect, Matteo Thun.
The KFC fast-food chain was founded in the USA in 1930 and now has over 12,300 outlets in more than 80 countries. In Germany, there are currently 53 KFC restaurants and the company is looking to open up a further 50 company-owned and franchise-run branches across the country by 2011. KFC recently made first place in a test carried out by the German Institute for Service Quality on the ten biggest fast-food chains in Germany.
In order to be able to achieve its aggressive growth strategy, KFC expects its franchisees to have practical experience of the food service branch, restaurant business or retail trade as well as a sound knowledge of the regional market and sufficient financial resources.
