Jack Wolfskin: growth in sales thanks to franchising

Jack Wolfskin, a retailer of outdoor clothing, succeeded in increasing its sales last year by 33 percent. The company announced recently that it achieved a net turnover of 129.6 million euros in Europe last year. In Germany, the company’s biggest market (80% of the turnover), the network even managed to increase sales by 35 percent.

“We are really pleased with the way the company developed in 2006,” commented Manfred Hell, managing director and co-owner of Jack Wolfskin GmbH & Co. KGaA. “We are hoping to further extend our dominant position on the German market. We believe there is still a huge growth potential in the country. The same is true for the other Alpine countries.” In addition to this, the company is also intending to launch its brand on further Asian markets.

According to the company, Jack Wolfskin is the largest franchisor within German sports retailing. Besides selling its products via franchise stores, the brand can also be found at specialist sports retailers. At the moment, the company is working together with around 1,600 retailers. In Germany there are currently 113 outlets, in Switzerland seven, in Austria eight and in Belgium three as well as one store each in Finland, the Netherlands and Great Britain.
