Domino's Pizza releases its figures for the UK and Ireland for 2007

In a recent press release, Domino’s Pizza UK & IRL plc announced that its like-for-like sales grew by 17.6% for the six weeks to 30th December 2007, compared with the 13.1% increase during the same period in 2006. Furthermore, its like-for-like sales increased by 14.7% in the 52 weeks ending 30th December 2007, (2006: 9.7%).

Furthermore, the company reached its goal of opening 50 new restaurants last year which means that there are now 501 stores in the UK and Ireland. According to the information provided, one reason for the growth in sales was the increased use by customers of the network’s e-commerce platforms. Indeed, compared with the year before, total online sales rocketed by 60.5 percent in the 52 weeks up to 30th December 2007 reaching a figure of £32.2million.

In the statement, Chris Moore, who took over the position of chief executive on 31st December 2007, commented on the results, saying, “Last year was a tremendous year for Domino's Pizza in the UK and Ireland. Our strong sales performance was fuelled by the strong marketing of truly innovative new products, continual improvement in customer service times which we know directly impact on propensity to re-order and the superior quality of our product”.

Domino's Pizza UK & IRL plc is the exclusive master franchisee for the UK and Ireland. The first UK restaurant was set up in 1985 and the first Irish store in 1991. At the end of last year, the chain consisted of 398 stores in England, 38 in Scotland, 19 in Wales, 12 in Northern Ireland and 34 in the Republic of Ireland. Domino's Pizza was founded in the USA in 1960, and operates a worldwide network of over 8,000 restaurants in more than 50 countries, the majority of which are run by franchisees.
