Chiquita Fruitbar to expand via franchising

According to a report published on the Internet portal cafefuture.net, Chiquita, a company marketing fruit and vegetable products, is intending to expand its Fruitbar restaurant concept. Plans are to have found around eight franchisees by the end of the year. “We currently operate 6 stores in Germany – all of which are company-owned – and we are now planning to set up a network of franchisees,” explained Richard Lanczmann, operations manager at the company.

Besides Germany, Fruitbar is also looking to use the franchising concept to expand into Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. Apparently the company also believes that it would be possible to set up a network of around 250 outlets in the Middle East if a suitable master franchisee can be found. Chiquita Brands International is, it says, one of the largest banana producers in the world. Moreover, Chiquita markets and sells both fresh and processed fruit and vegetable products worldwide. The first Chiquita Fruitbar was opened at the end of 2005. These bars sell a wide range of products including fruit juices, smoothies, fruit salads, mueslis and milkshakes.
