Jack Wolfskin, a leading retailer of outdoor clothing, is continuing to expand. The company has announced that its European net turnover amounted to 205.5 million euros in 2008 – an increase of just under 33 percent. Manfred Hell, managing director and co-founder, is also expecting a two figure growth in sales this year: "We shall be continuing along the same path and investing further to increase brand awareness."
Last year, Jack Wolfskin opened up 45 new stores. As a result, it currently has 200 stores in Europe, 168 of which are located in Germany, where the company is based. Its workforce also increased by 51 in 2008 and the company now has 340 employees – this figure is also expected to grow by a further 15 percent this year. Germany is the company’s strongest market but it is, above all, looking to expand in Eastern Europe and China. According to the company, sales in Rumania, Poland, the Czech Republic and the Ukraine increased by 118 percent in 2008. A new Jack Wolfskin store is expected to open up in St. Petersburg soon. After launching the brand in China just a year ago, the company already has 25 locations in the country. The company is also in the process of building a new European logistics centre in Neu Wulmstorf that is due to have started operations by the end of the year. (kbp)
