The Howarth Franchising Group has announced that the Institute for Work-Based Learning (IWBL), based at Middlesex University, has re-formed its alliance with The Franchise Training Centre, part of Howarth Franchising Group, and is now offering an MA in Franchising to selected delegates who wish to add a formal qualification to their previous work experience in the franchising community. Students are, the company says, currently being sought for a “pilot cohort” who will begin their programme in April 2009 with a view to the award of their degree in Autumn 2010.
David Williams, Head of Business Development at IWBL, says, “Programmes are modular, part-time study, and are focused on real work based projects designed to offer maximum benefit to the organisation, with accreditation of the knowledge and skills built up over a career. The qualification gained through work-based learning has the same value as going to university in the traditional way – it’s just a more convenient way of learning where both the learner and their organisation can benefit. It provides a flexible learning experience that is delivered through work, in work, for work, at work”.
As well as easing the burden of study by demonstrating previous work experience in the franchising sector, delegates on Franchise Training Centre workshops, especially those who have achieved the Diploma in Franchise Management, will receive a number of academic credits which will count towards the number required for eventual award of their degree.
Brian Duckett, chairman of Howarth Franchising Group, said, “We are delighted
to be teaming up again with Middlesex University Business School, who led the
way in franchising academia when originally accrediting FTC programmes six years
ago. We are both indebted, as ever, to Dr. Martin Mendelsohn, the eminence grise
of UK franchising, for encouraging this further association and we look forward
to his input to the forthcoming activities”. (kbp)
