In May: 1st International Franchise Exhibition in Serbia
Franchising is not widespread in Serbia yet but, as Rolf G. Kirst from Franchise Pool International explains, the Serbian Franchise Association is making great efforts to promote franchising in the country. The first franchise exhibition is now being held in Belgrade on 21 & 22 May 2009; a special franchise centre had already been set up in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce back in December 2007.
The event is being held in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in Belgrade by the Serbian Franchise Association in collaboration with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and will be offering visitors the opportunity to listen to talks held by international guests as well as to browse around a small exhibition in which franchise systems will be presenting their business concepts. According to Kirst, the costs are low at only 200 euros per brand.
Very few international franchise systems are currently active in Serbia. Those already there include chains such as Mc Donald's, Re/Max and Pizza Hut. Around 15 local companies are involved in the franchising sector, Kirst says. The need for franchising ideas is considerably higher than this small number so, according to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the country is interested in welcoming foreign systems especially in the area of master partnerships.
