Yum! Brands supports UN’s World Food Programme
Yum! Brands has announced that it has launched the world's largest hunger relief effort in an attempt to help stop world hunger. It will be running its "World Hunger Relief Week," an event to support the United Nation’s World Food Programme, from 14th – 20th October 2007. 35,000 company and franchised restaurants located in 112 countries will be participating in some way or other in the event.
According to information provided by the company, Yum! is hoping to raise awareness of the world’s hunger problem and raise funds from the more than 125 million customers that visit its restaurants every week. The Yum! Foundation will also be donating to the cause: by covering the World Food Programme's low administrative fee, the company will be ensuring that all funds collected from its customers and employees will go directly toward purchasing food for those suffering from hunger around the world.
Louisville-based Yum! Brands Inc. is, it says, the world's largest restaurant company in terms of system restaurants with over 35,000 restaurants, which include over 2,000 licensed restaurants, in more than 100 countries around the globe. The company's restaurant brands include KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, A&W and Long John Silver's. Last year, the Yum! Brands' system opened around three new restaurants each day making it one of the fastest growing retailers in the world.
